The lake at the cottage is not open for winter fishing so the brothers Andrew and Kevin decide they need a mobile ice fishing shack they can haul into the middle of a frozen lake.

Project Steps

Step 1

Fishing is a great way to get a free meal when you’re up at the cottage. But once winter hits and the lake freezes over, fishing gets a whole lot harder, not to mention, colder. We all know the age-old ritual of ice-fishing but when the ideal lake for ice-fishing is several miles away, there are numerous impediments, not the least of which is the prospect of hauling a large, potentially heavy, ice-fishing shack over a long distance out onto a frozen lake. With the latest Brojects creation, the Ultimate Ice Fishing Shack, we sought to address all those concerns and more.

Starting with an old roadside sign from a car dealership, we created a collapsible ice fishing shack that we could tow behind our snowmobile. We gutted the innards of the sign and installed a floor, seating, heating and trap doors to access the frozen lake below. The clear acrylic roof is held up by four upright posts and the perimeter is sealed off with a vinyl and canvas liner to give us a 360 degree view of the lake while protecting us from the elements. The Ultimate Ice Fishing Shack sits on top of skis for easy transport from the cottage to the lakes in the surrounding area.
