6 Ways To Boost Your Energy

Kevin and Andrew set very tight schedules for themselves on Brojects with a lot of projects completed over three to four days.  When they decide to build the Mobile Mini Cottage (Season 1, Episode #13), they end up burning the candle at both ends. But, grogginess and power tools don’t play well together. Here are 6 ways to boost your energy and keep your fingers intact.

1. Food. Almonds, bananas, and hard boiled eggs are great snack foods. They’ll give you a quick boost without any demanding prep time.

2. Deep Breathing. When you sleep, you take in big breaths. Short and shallow breaths can wear you out. Big breaths help to replace oxygen in your body, and give you a second wind. Take a breather, literally, and you’ll be back in the game.

3. Water. Dehydration can cause fatigue. Getting even basic tasks done will feel like you’re running through mud before long. Drink lots of water, and don’t stay in the sun too long.

4. Exercise. A good way to get the blood pumping is with just a few minutes of exercise. Staring at a computer will drain your battery, but a bit of cardio will keep you going. Do some stretches, jumping jacks, or pushups. But mix it up. Do something different during every break and the variety will keep it from feeling like a chore.

5. Coffee. The old standby, caffeine can give you a quick jolt to keep you up and alert. It can dehydrate you though, and too much coffee can make you anxious and agitated. So drink a cup of joe, not the whole pot.

6. Nap. When nothing else works, it’s time for a power nap. A hammock is great for getting a quick snooze. Grab between 20 and 40 minutes of rest in the hammock. It’s enough to perk you up, but not so much that you won’t want to get back to work.
